Furniture setups/Layouts to improve productivity when working from home
Most people are working from home, mostly due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, a lot of companies, small and large have continued to allow employees to work from home. This is due to the rise in productivity, contrary to popular belief that working from home lowers productivity.
This article is for anyone and everyone who wants to turbo-charge that productivity through your home furniture, and yes, your environment matters even when you’re working from home.
Comfort and organization
The more comfy you are the more productive you’ll be, just don’t get too comfortable to the point of dozing off! We cannot stress this enough though, so your best bets are a good office chair and desk. Its finally time to set-up your work-space like your boss! We’ve all eyed that corner office with the view at one point or another, so why not take the work from home opportunity to set-up your own corner office at home.
There’s a reason CEO’s can stay in their offices for so long, its comfortable! Unlike cubicles which can be quite depressing and actually lower productivity.
A desk is essential, in spite of the fact that we all believe that we can work in bed. This is untrue, this is what we meant by too comfortable👀… The right desk height will make sure you’re not straining your neck and back. An ergonomic chair will keep you focused throughout the day as you’re not constantly re-adjusting and standing up to stretch.
Home office Colors and natural light
Bright cheerful colors and natural light are a match made in heaven for home office spaces. Psychologically speaking, bright colors are uplifting and give rooms life. Also, natural light can make for the perfect home office space. A lack of natural light has actually been proven to decrease productivity and work satisfaction.
In a study by Dr. Alan Hedge of Cornell University’s Department of Design and Environmental Analysis he found that natural light can:
- Reduced eye strain
- Fewer reports of headaches
- Improved mood
- Less drowsiness
- Fewer mistakes
The full study can be found here if you want to have a look.
Plants
Scientifically it has been proven that we as people have an inherent need to be around nature, this phenomenon is called biophilia. Unfortunately, the areas where we spend the majority of our waking hours—at work—have lost a lot of their connection to the outside world. So having a few plants littered around the office can help with a few things like cleaning the air to boosting creativity.
Here’s a list of a few benefits we found:
- Stress reduction
- Boosting productivity
- Reduction in sickness
